Since 1959, the Presbyterian Student Center in Athens, Georgia has ministered to the students at the University of Georgia. Under the leadership of Dr. Wade Huie, Presbyterians across the state raised $250,000 in the late 1950’s to build the Presbyterian Student Center. Today, we have a vibrant ministry in this place with a mission to furnish students with a rich community experience through which they mature in faith, develop into committed disciples of Jesus Christ, and become effective leaders of his church in the world.
While we are grateful for the work of those Presbyterians 50 years ago, our building is in desperate need of repairs. We are seeking to raise $250,000 in capital funds in the next two years to address our facility needs. It is our hope that we can have as many Presbyterians in the state as is possible to participate in a capital fundraising program. We are asking congregations to consider donating $4 per member to this program.
To that end, we drafted a letter that we sent to many of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations in Georgia asking for their help. If you would like a copy, then you can click here for the letter and here for the attachment. If you have any questions, then we would love to hear from you. You may email the Campus Minister, Andy Cooke.
