High School NightThis past Sunday, we hosted “High School Night” at the PSC. We invited some local high school folks to come out and see what campus ministry is all about. We had youth from Covenant Presbyterian and Oconee Presbyterian join us for dinner and worship (pictured are a few of the high school students after worship). Mark and the worship team plugged in for worship rather than go the usual acoustic route–that was pretty cool. After worship, we hung out for a while–I stayed around long enough to get beat at ping pong by someone from Covenant (grrr).

We talked about the importance of campus ministry and how to find campus ministries that are well suited for you on different campuses. To learn more about Presbyterian campus ministries, go to www.pcusacollege.org. [posted by Andy]

Presbyterian GardenersWe had a great time yesterday afternoon planting the bed outside the back door for Earth Day Sunday. Here’s a picture of the folks who helped. We covered the bed with mulch made from recycled pallets. After we finished, it rained (good timing, God).

We also had a great worship service centered around environmental stewardship. Mitch and Calley made a slide show and a brochure to help us be better stewards. Let us know if you’d like a copy of the brochure or if you’d like to see to slide show (.ppt document). [posted by Andy]

Calley and MitchThis Sunday, April 19, is Earth Day Sunday. Calley and Mitch have been working hard to make it a good one. We will be gathering for dinner at 6:15p and worship at 7:00p as we normally do, but we are inviting everyone to show up a little early to plant some flowers and shrubs before dinner. Show up at 5:30p this Sunday if you’d like to help.

Pictured here are Calley and Mitch preparing the site for Sunday. We already dug the holes. All that you have to do is show up, put the plant in the hole, and cover it with dirt. We are planting Camellias, Oak Leaf Hydrangeas, Ferns, and Green and Gold.

On Earth Day (Wed. April 22), we will be showing Garbage! in the TV room at 8:00p and doing a waste audit at 9:15p. Hope to see you then! [posted by Andy]

foot washingHoly Week was a joyful blur. We celebrated Maundy Thursday together with communion and a footwashing service in the chapel. In John’s Gospel, Jesus gets up from the table, washes feet, and then returns to the table. We imitated some of that by folding the footwashing into the communion liturgy. There are few things that will solidify the community more than washing feet–it’s one of my favorite things about Holy Week.

On Friday, several students went to First Presbyterian for their noon service while others went to Friendship Presbyterian for the community Good Friday service. Sunday found us at Oconee Presbyterian Church for the sunrise service. Two of our students, Hayley and Caroline, were readers at that service. It was a beautiful setting. The sun rose behind the table as we celebrated communion. Afterwards, we had breakfast together.

On Sunday evening, we had dinner and worship at the PSC. We shared the Emmaus story and sang lots of songs. All in all, it was a great Holy Week/Easter Sunday.  [posted by Andy]
