Calley and MitchThis Sunday, April 19, is Earth Day Sunday. Calley and Mitch have been working hard to make it a good one. We will be gathering for dinner at 6:15p and worship at 7:00p as we normally do, but we are inviting everyone to show up a little early to plant some flowers and shrubs before dinner. Show up at 5:30p this Sunday if you’d like to help.

Pictured here are Calley and Mitch preparing the site for Sunday. We already dug the holes. All that you have to do is show up, put the plant in the hole, and cover it with dirt. We are planting Camellias, Oak Leaf Hydrangeas, Ferns, and Green and Gold.

On Earth Day (Wed. April 22), we will be showing Garbage! in the TV room at 8:00p and doing a waste audit at 9:15p. Hope to see you then! [posted by Andy]

relay for lifeHere’s a pic of some of our Relay for Life Team folks. I think that this was around 3 a.m. last Friday/Saturday, which is why I wasn’t in the picture. Anyway, Hayley and Betsy did a great job of organizing the group, tie dying tee shirts, coming up with an onsite fundraiser, and raising money beforehand. As a team, we raised over $1000 (and it’s not too late for you to make a donation).  The last time that I looked, the UGA Relay for Life raised close to $239,000 (and counting).

Thanks to everyone who donated, participated, etc. We’re all looking forward to next year’s UGA Relay for Life!

Some of our students spend spring break at Koinonia in South Georgia with students from the Univ. of Florida. I was facebook stalking them this morning and found this picture.

Immediately, the prophet Isaiah came to mind: “The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together….” Etc.

It seems almost apocalyptic to have folks from two schools with such a history of hatred coming together to do good. I guess they found something greater than football to bring them together.

On Sunday, we had a great time at the Super Bowl Party on Sunday (but I probably ate too many cheese puffs).

Mitch organized our participation in the Souper Bowl of Caring.  We had a “service blitz” on Saturday in which we worked at two different Habitat for Humanity sites.  I went to Lexington with one group.  The other group went to Bogart (and got to meet some Braves’ players who were there).
On Sunday, we took canned goods and monetary donations for the Foodbank of Northeast Georgia.  Today (Tuesday), we’re going to the Foodbank to volunteer our time and to turn in our donations.  Hayley is organizing a regular time to go to the Foodbank on the first Tuesday of every month.
